A kinetochore is a disc-shaped protein structure associated with duplicated chromatids in eukaryotic cells where the spindle fibers attach during cell division to pull sister chromatids apart. Spindle fibres attach to the kinetochores which is a proteinaceous assembly formed over the centromere.
