Spermatophyte, also called seed plant or phanerogam are seed-bearing tracheophytes (vascular plants). They are characterised by reproduction by seed and subdivided into the Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. Angiosperms: Acacia, sugarcane, Pisum, Triticum Gymnosperms: Pinus, Cycas, Gingko Fungi: Rhizopus Related Theory Gymnosperm and Angiosperm have a sporic life-cycle with sporophyte predominance, and seeds. The gametophyte is reduced to cells inside the ovule or pollen grain. Males have a minimum number of cells being three and females being four. The antheridia are absent and the archegonia are also reduced. Higher groups of seed plants lost flagellate spermatozoa and developed pollen tubes. The classes of Spermatophyta are Ginkgoopsida, Cycadopsida, Pinopsida, Gnetopsida, and Angiospermae. Caution Students confuse the option as option (A) and (B) also represents spermatophytes. But the question asked toclassify the Spermatophyta, which is divided into Gymnosperm and Angiosperm and option (D) represents both the divisions respectively.
